Most countries across the globe celebrate Father’s day on the third Sunday in June, with only Australia and New Zealand celebrating it on the first Sunday in September.
The idea for creating a day to honor fathers began in Spokane, Washington when a woman who had been raised by her father was attending a Mother’s day sermon in 1909. Sonora Smart Dodd wanted her father to know how special he was to her.
The first fathers day was celebrated on June 19, 1910.
