Something I learnt long ago was to not stare blindly at my computer screen waiting for an email to come through, it’s a bit like waiting for a kettle to boil, it never happens! For awhile there I was obsessed with the ‘F5′ button, refresh and check new messages. I was constantly doing this throughout the day in the hope it would magically make an order appear. Let me tell you it doesn’t all it does achieve is RSI and a very downcast and disheartened feeling.
When you start up an online business you need to be aware that it will take some time before the orders start coming in, for me it was 2 months. Don’t let ‘no new messages’ or ‘no orders’ deter you from making a go of your business. While in the start up faze of your business you need to be persistent, patient and optimistic. There are a miriad of things that need doing so don’t waste your time staring at your inbox be active, look for ways of promoting and advertising your new business, look for suppliers, delivery options, packaging etc etc You need to stay focused, join networking groups, both online and offline. I have found this a wonderful way of obtaining great information from like minded people plus it’s a very helpful way of staying sane (well relatively anyway) and feeling less alone and isolated.
So, ‘no new messages’ is no biggy if you don’t let it become your obsession. Use this time wisely as before you know it you’ll be praying for ‘no new messages’!
