Rainbow Designs

a blog in the life of an online gift shop and its owner

Recently I have realised (or noticed) how much I compare myself to others. I compare my blog to others, my business to others, my personal life to others, my house, my car, my hair, my clothes basically everything about myself I compare but the worse thing….I never measure up.

Take blogging for example, I’m still relatively new to it but saying that I have been doing it for a few months now, I read others that totally inspire me or make me laugh yet when it comes to mine I fail. I fail to really ’say’ anything. It’s all quotes, copies, links or new products nothing of substance. I look at my blog and think ‘Why would anyone bother to read it’? What’s missing? What’s the ‘point’ of my blog? What can I do to improve it? Now that’s the important question ‘what can I do’.

1. not compare myself to other bloggers

2. be honest

3. share what I’ve learnt from running an online business

4. offer advice/tips on starting an internet business

5. provide information that I have found and utilised

6. don’t take everything so seriously

7. start enjoying my blog

8. don’t stress over a new blog post

9. write when I have something to say

Comparing myself with others can be beneficial as long as I put everything into perspective and don’t judge myself too harshly. There are always things I can do to improve myself, my business, my attitude but thinking I’m not worthy or capable of improving is pointless and quite destructive.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life (who said that?).

I don’t feel like I measure up so I’m going to get a new tape measure!

I’m going to promise myself that I will not be hard on myself (well maybe a little) if I fall off the wagon a few times, Rome wasn’t built in a day. (cliches finished - for now).

I always read your blog! What are you worrying about? There is always something interesting here to read. You do your own thing and I enjoy it, so keep up the good work.

Love the makeover here, by the way. Don’t you love fiddling with the templates?

Jacqui, you go girl! Take inspiration from those around you but remember you are a unique, beautiful woman who has a great business and a bright future.

No need to compare yourself with others, all you need to do is focus on what YOU want because our wants and needs are different to the next person and the next person after that. Only you can decide on where you want your business to go and what you want to achieve personally and professionally.

I think your approach of sharing what you’ve learnt and offering tips and advice is perfect.

PS: love the new design.

We all feel the same way. I have been writing my blog for over 12 months and am always amazed when other people outside my blog buddies read and comment. Just treat it as another part of your business - do enough to enjoy it but don’t do too much that you start to resent it.
