Yes, which may surprise some of you! Chocolate contains small quantities of B vitamins, iron, potassium, phosphorous and calcium (especially milk chocolate). The fat in chocolate is derived from the cocoa bean and, even though it is saturated (the not so good fat ;-) ) it does not raise your blood cholesterol levels. Dark chocolate is the most beneficial as it has anti-oxidants similar to those found in tea and red wine which helps to keep our body healthy. Another misnomer about chocolate is its caffeine content - in actual fact it has very little.

Scientific research tells us that eating chocolate triggers the release of endorphins, natural opiates in the brain known to reduce pain and enhance one’s mood and sense of pleasure.

So eating chocolate is not only good for us by also makes us feel good! Just remember though - eat in moderation with a balanced diet and exercise but it is good to know we shouldn’t feel guilty about indulging every now and then! :-)
