The L&H 500 was on over the weekend (500km V8Supercar race) although it was hard to tell if you were watching it on television - brilliant racing, shocking telecast. Channel 7 are really letting motorsport down I’m afraid. Ads are a part of television I don’t deny this but seriously who expects to watch a show (any show) and have to put up with advertising every 5mins (sometimes less - I kid you not). At one stage we were subjected to ads after every one and a half laps, a lap is approx 1m.34s and this was getting down to the serious end of the race. It was close racing, there were safety cars, rain, accidents, passing - basically what you sit down to watch V8Supercars for, yet we couldn’t enjoy it.
I love my motor racing but channel 7 are killing it. We can’t all make it to the track so the next best thing is on the tv but it’s almost getting to the point of me not bothering. I was even discussing following a different sport, NRL, AFL, cricket even Lawn Bowls or netball. These don’t get interupted by ads especially the last 2 as they are shown on ch2 which have NO ADVERTISING - heaven!
Another thing that makes it even more frustrating with the amount of ads is the fact that the race cars themselves have advertsing all over them as do the race tracks, surely this should minimise the amount of tv ads they need to show?
Come on Channel 7 - lift your game and stop spoiling our motor racing. Bathurst is coming up, do it justice and your audience. You promote that we don’t miss any of the action but that’s because you replay everything YOU missed while we were watching blinkin’ ads - NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
Sorry for the rant, but I am just so disappointed with Ch7 and how they ruined, what was a fabulous race, by showing so many ads (over and over and over again). Give us a break - would you do that to the AFL? Did you do that with the Olympics? Treat your motor sport fans better or you will lose us.
For the record the race was won by Skaife/Tander and my favourite (Murph) DNF’ed ![]()
